I don't think 11 is an 'average G&T' and with the push to make G&Ts truly accelerated, I think it would offer a better education than any of the school you listed...but I don't think it's that important to be 'advanced' in elementary school (if your kid is smart, he'll catch up later anyway) so I'm not sure I'd commute too far for the advantage of the 'better' education [ Reply | More ]

OP I'm just trying to get a handle on whether other parents would choose the g&T over a good school in the category of MSC, MTW or 3. These aren't G&t's but have reps of being very good for early childhood ed [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 06.17.08, 07:09 PM Flag
»
some would and some wouldn't. Those that would are probably the types that feel their dc NEEDS the advanced curriculum because they would be absolutely bored in regular gen ed. Then you have the types who seek it out because their zoned school is awful and others who happened to be zoned to a school with a G&T and decent gen ed (like 11, 116, 9) and figure they might as well try for G&T and if they get it, great, if not, gen ed is fine anyway. I did. I am zoned for 3, and really liked it, but I just loved 11. [ Reply | More ]

I'm not familiar with MSC or 3, but I wouldn't pick MTW over 11. 11 is a stronger program with smaller classes, and the G&T means a smarter student body. MTW is too progressive for my taste, too. [ Reply | More ]

just so you know there is technically no no-fault in NY. A separation agreement is the next best thing but you still have to wait a year after it has been signed for the final divorce decree. if you can both agree to abandonment on the grounds of no sexual realtions for a year or more or that spouse left the house (no judge checks if you both sign off but one of you has to claim the other abandoned you) then you can get it all done sooner. bad teachers can be fired. I think there is myth that there is a ton of lousy teahers who cannot be fired because of tenure. I think tenure creates community in schools. you don't want teachers bouncing around schools and i know a lot of principals that suck and would fire good teachers who call them on thier b.s. if they could.
