sweety, no two women are the same. "a lot" for some may be just right or too little for others. try not to play the compare & contrast game, and focus on if you're gaining enough to have a healthy baby and stay a healthy mommy. to answer your question i gained about 8 in my first trimester. girl, i am IN pregnancy number 1. when i gained 8lbs, i thought i was going to die or explode - seriously. the changing body/belly really shook me. i'm in 20wks now and am hovering around 10/11lbs. and after crying to my honey, whining to my mom (3 kids), complaining to my sister (3 kids), and venting to my girlfriends (collectively 4 kids) - the jist of their advice it is that all our body types are different and no two women gain the same. i was RIGHT THERE with you... personally, i think you're fine and will taper off. just keep an eye on it & try to watch what you eat and walk walk walk! :) [ Reply | More ]

LL has really strong 4th grade teachers and I would say a very even/ academically strong grade. I did not hear of many parents getting tutoring for math this year. They were very prepared. They have a very heavy homework load in 4th grade but it pays off. The 4th grade test is very important to LL kids because almost all of them move onto g&t middle schools. [ Reply | More ]

Thanks. I'm concerned that with the large class size created by having to take so many children from 41 that it will be a disaster in a mixed age classroom. That is tough enough without one teacher and 28 students. What do you think? [ Reply | More ]

Class size is a huge issue for everyone right now, that's one reason for the rally. If the middle school leaves that will really help. Large classes are hard with or without the mixed ages. I've loved the mixed classes because it seemed to really help my kids who are ahead in some ways but at grade level in others. The teachers are amazing and usually have several teacher aids/NYU students/parents helping them. They have decided to split most the 4/5th graders because of the test prep load though. K/1 btw is still around 21 kids. [ Reply | More ]

But it isn't going to be next year with my child enters. The classes will be full and predominately K children (because of the increase of people who are forced to go there that wouldn't have done so if they had a choice). KWIM? [ Reply | More ]

I have not heard this from either the parent teacher coordinator or the principal. Why would there be a big increase from previous years? 41 is not taking fewer than previous years. 41 has been overcrowded for a while. [ Reply | More ]

41 is taking FAR fewer than past years. They want to get rid of at least two classes (call it 40-45) and are trying to get rid of 3 classes (so - at least 60-70 students) [ Reply | More ]

They'll have to share the pain as always. It doesn't make sense that suddenly 41 would be allowed to have small classes while 3 explodes. Let's hope that the DOE will go for this Morton street school. It's a building that is empty, and already has gym/lunch room etc so it would be perfect for Greenwich Village middle school. That would give 3 another entire floor as soon as next year. I don't usually get political but I'm going to this rally. [ Reply | More ]

Agree that 41 should share the pain, but the truth is 3 has somewhat more room. In the past they took scads of dcs from outside the zone but this year couldn't do that. [ Reply | More ]

also, if you take the suck for a while and just keep an eagle eye, your dc will learn what to do. we did this with dd, and by 18 mo we could leave wine glasses, etc. on the coffee table and she wouldn't touch them. good to have a gated, safe area for when you can't watch, though. [ Reply | More ]
