How did you find out the results? We were told by 41 they aren't releasing them yet because they want 3 to take more dcs. [ Reply | More ]

btw - there's a possibility that the middle school at 3 could move as soon as next year if they approve a site on Morton street for them. Big rally at City Hall Thurs 3:30 to push for this. [ Reply | More ]

just a note - for what it's worth 3 got a better math score. I think you'll find while 3 has a much older facility it's an excellent school and I'm sure your child will do fine there. [ Reply | More ]

Thanks. I'm concerned that with the large class size created by having to take so many children from 41 that it will be a disaster in a mixed age classroom. That is tough enough without one teacher and 28 students. What do you think? [ Reply | More ]

Class size is a huge issue for everyone right now, that's one reason for the rally. If the middle school leaves that will really help. Large classes are hard with or without the mixed ages. I've loved the mixed classes because it seemed to really help my kids who are ahead in some ways but at grade level in others. The teachers are amazing and usually have several teacher aids/NYU students/parents helping them. They have decided to split most the 4/5th graders because of the test prep load though. K/1 btw is still around 21 kids. [ Reply | More ]

But it isn't going to be next year with my child enters. The classes will be full and predominately K children (because of the increase of people who are forced to go there that wouldn't have done so if they had a choice). KWIM? [ Reply | More ]

I have not heard this from either the parent teacher coordinator or the principal. Why would there be a big increase from previous years? 41 is not taking fewer than previous years. 41 has been overcrowded for a while. [ Reply | More ]

41 is taking FAR fewer than past years. They want to get rid of at least two classes (call it 40-45) and are trying to get rid of 3 classes (so - at least 60-70 students) [ Reply | More ]

They'll have to share the pain as always. It doesn't make sense that suddenly 41 would be allowed to have small classes while 3 explodes. Let's hope that the DOE will go for this Morton street school. It's a building that is empty, and already has gym/lunch room etc so it would be perfect for Greenwich Village middle school. That would give 3 another entire floor as soon as next year. I don't usually get political but I'm going to this rally. [ Reply | More ]

Agree that 41 should share the pain, but the truth is 3 has somewhat more room. In the past they took scads of dcs from outside the zone but this year couldn't do that. [ Reply | More ]

I don't know where your stat of scads comes from - but the last year they were allowed to accept children out of zone - they took FIVE. [ Reply | More ]

not true. they took tons for pre-k outside the zone (i happen to know a bunch of them) and they are grandfathered in, but with the new pre-k rules that won't be the case. [ Reply | More ]

i think those assigned to 3 know but those assigned to 41 don't because 41 wants 3 to take some additional dcs. [ Reply | More ]
