yes, it starts really young. dd is 5, the girls are mostly 5 and 6yo. she said a few things in the past year about girls in her class being mean but it wasn't a problem b/c she had her own friends. however, she only knows one girl from this camp. i'm hoping that as she gets to know people, they'll play with her. but i'm really afraid that it'll just snowball into something unpleasant. do you think blowing this out of proportion? no..my oldest dd is 8yr old and even now I still see mean things going on. I think being honest with your dd about how some of these mean kids are and how she should react is good. Better to arm her with honesty than to sugar coat it and try to conceal her from reality. [ Reply | More ]

^^BTW just yesterday my dd had to stand up for a smaller, shy girl that other girls in camp were bothers. This small girl (she's the same age 8yr) wasn't invited to a party and the bday girl asked my dd to talk more about the party to annoy the other girl. personalize it... "When I was young, and people who I wanted to play with didn't want to play with me I either found other people to play with or I tried doing what they were doing." My son complained that nobody on the playground at recess in Kindergarten would play with him. My short hairs stood up. I was ready to go down to his school the next day and start kicking ass. Then I asked him if he knew why. "No." So I asked him what they said to him. "They say 'we don't want to play chase the land shark." What is chase the land shark I asked. He went on for fifteen minutes about this game he had made up which sounded like it would have been fun for only one child on the face of God's green earth and that kid was looking for others to stop playing their fun games to try and learn how to play his... The top ten part is quite generous--descriptive and specific. If you're apply to grad school with this recommendation, it will be well-received ( I sat on my PhD dept's admissions committee). And keep in mind that a lot of state universities have far better reputations than private universities and colleges; the public/private designation alone doesn't mean much. For instance, University of Michigan vs. DeVry. [ Reply | More ]

I'd call your OB, just to check in. Generally it's bleeding with cramping that's a bad sign--not bleeding on its own. Good luck. [ Reply | More ]

Sh'es 100% right. Sit down, try to calm yourself, and wait for your OB to get back in touch with you. He or she will ask how long this has been going on, how much blood, etc. Good luck. [ Reply | More ]

NP: There's always a chance. If you're bleeding a lot and still can't get in touch with OB, you can go to the ER, but I've BTDT and it's an ordeal. [ Reply | More ]

It is cause for concern, but it happens to many people that end up fine. According to the written directions from my ob, if it is red blood, go to bed immediately, drink lots of water, and try to get them on the phone. I personally would go to the ER, if they don't call back soon, just for my own piece of mind. And sometime there are things they can do to stop a miscarriage, especially if the bleeding is just from low progesterone, ect. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] 8 mo ds absolutely pitches a fit for ever diaper and clothing change. I have resorted to doing everything with him standing, which is less than ideal. Anyone have a db who went through this? Did they ever grow out of it? Any tips? 2 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I have a little basket of toys next to the changing table and give DD a toy (that she doesn't otherwise get to play with) during the diaper change. Sometimes that works. [ Reply | More ]

We went through those phases. It's just a phase. Keep at it, even if he screams. What choice do you have? Eventually he'll grow out of it. [ Reply | More ]
