Good time to buy, or should we continue to rent. Really need a larger space. Now in rent control. Rental prices are shocking. So afraid of buying and then market crashing. Not certain we will be here five years, but I have been saying that forever. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Run the numbers taking into consideration out of pocket outlay, lost interest on downpament and tax deductions but NOT any appreciation - is it cheaper to buy or rent (obviously compare equivalent apartments)? [ Reply | More ]

Where is that? That is a huge rent- you could be paying half that on a mortgage for about the same space, after taxes [ Reply | More ]

How much are you assuming this woman has to put down. An apt that size will cost at least 1.6MM in Manhattan? It will probablly also have maintenance of at least 2-2.5K only part of which will be taxes. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, and in Brooklyn she could get the same for MUCH less with a much smaller maintenance/taxes if it is a new condo. I assume someone who spends 7500 in rent can afford a downpayment of several hundred thousand, even if its taken out of other funds [ Reply | More ]

same boat. i think we are ready to buy. i think prices are still inflated but i feel like if we offer something i think is reasonable, the market isn't going to crash much further. and even if it does, i don't care that much b/c i'll be in a house that i could afford. [ Reply | More ]

coops are things of the past and archaic in terms of getting in to. have you considered outer boroughs? WAY more condos [ Reply | More ]
