You are all so misinformed. My mother led me to beleive that she was a virgin until marriage. HAH. I would have LOVED to have been able to talk to her when I became pg at 18. But I couldn't, because she was so "perfect". So I handled it all by myself. If she was honest with me, if we could have talked, it may have been different. Kids need to be able to talk to their parents, not see them as some examples of unattainable virtue. [ Reply | More ]

don't think these are parallel circumstances at all. regardless of how you personally feel about using pot, it is still against the law. everyone has sex, sooner or later. or- I was also a daily user in my 20's (see my post below about panic attacks), and I will ABSOLUTELY tell them. Pot was fun at first, but then when I started using regularly it turned me into a non-productive blob who had no life. I want them to understand the pitfalls. I want them to talk to me about it, and not view me as some pious holier than thou type who they can't speak to. [ Reply | More ]

I would tell my dcs the absolute truth: that I think pot should be legalized and that I think it is the same as drinking alcohol (if not better for you). Like alcohol, I know that dcs might try it, but that, as always, moderation is the key and don't put yourself in any danger - no driving, no partaking before/during school and don't get wasted. Be with friends. Always be safe. Don't let it interfere with school, activities or life. [ Reply | More ]

I think it should be legal, but don't for a second think it is more damaging than alcohol. I was a pretty regular smoker in my 20's and it brought on severe panic attacks and near agoraphobia. This isn't unusual. My nightly glass of wine doesn't even come close to giving me the feeling getting high did. People who equate the two are silly. [ Reply | More ]

I know hundreds of people who manage just fine, with either smoking pot or drinking regularly. Another thing for them to consider is that if they are caught, a drug arrest goes on their record and they become ineligible for federal financial aid for college.
