[ - ] My 2.5 yo is very verbal but he still melts down and cries a lot when he gets frustrated. Besides telling him to do so, how do I teach him to not overreact and to use his words? 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

My ds is the same and I say. I can't understand you when you shout use your words. Eventually he calms down. I think it's normal. [ Reply | More ]

I would suggest never to use the words overreact. His reaction is his reaction. With very verbal kids, it is easy to think they are more emotionally mature then they are. One of the best things is to acknowledge their frustration. Sometimes it helps to verbalize for them -- to put words to what and why they are feeling something (but not babble at them). He's probably a perfectionist (it can happen this early) but praise him for hard work and what he DOES accomplish [ Reply | More ]

Maybe the test with the lines was more sensitive that the digital? There's a good chance you are. But I got a faint line with First Response once that disappeared a few minutes later and I turned out to not be pregnant, so I don't use that brand anymore. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] OUR WONDERFUL NANNY OF & YEARS IS AVAILABLE - SEPT 1 ST. Our nanny of 7 years will be available for a full-time, live out position in Manhattan beginning Sept 1st 2008. Sadly, we are relocating to Chicago over the summer which is the only reason I would ever say goodbye to Shanta. I cannot say enough wonderful things about her. She has cared for my two boys (7 and 2) since the older one was born and she loves them as if they were her own. She is a loving, honest, reliable caregiver. She takes them all over the city to school, classes, playdates etc... She is extremely committed to her work and is very reliable. She has terrific references and will be a gift to any family. Please let me know if you would like to hear more about this wonderful caregiver or I can give you her cell number and you can contact her directly. 9 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

i am a teacher and the best ones you can get are all based on the same philosophy of the great psychologist, rudolf dreikurs. he has two books called, 'children, the challenge" and 'the challenge of parenthood". there is one by jane nelson called, 'positive discipline". i have been using his theories since dd was born and have no discipline problems and i attribute it to practicing dreikurs' suggestions. i also taught very difficult students and used his theories with great success. ps...do not take anyone's suggestion for 123 magic. its' suggestions do not treat the child with dignity and respect. it may 'work' temporarily but it is unkind and children harbor bad freelings from treatment like that. i think it is a popular book here. [ Reply | More ]

you are welcome. it takes a lot to practice the techniques but it is definitely the way to go. you feel good, the baby feels good, the baby gets socialized appropriately and acts accordingly at home and out of it. if you cannot find it in a bookstore, you can get it onn line at ABE books for about a dollar. it was written a whie ago but still holds true today. may seem outdated (names like ethel, moms only work in the home, etc) [ Reply | More ]
