yes a few times. I never took a taxi from airport to the port but just bought into the cruise transportation. So much better because when you check in your luggage at your hometown airport, you don't see them until you check into your stateroom. They pick up your luggage and you. So worth it. Also if you have an early flight, they let you disembark first. I would call the cruiseline and see what their process is but never missed an early flight..but I never made flight arrangements for before noon [ Reply | More ]

well usually we are in the park. So if she needs to go then I take out the potty near the bench and put her on it. When a 2yr old needs to go and is learning, there isn't much of "hold" time. If we are in the car, I pull over and she goes right there. If we are in the street and so happen next to a barnes and noble then I use their restroom but this portable potty is great esp. in the NYC parks [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Has this happened to anyone else? I think I had a bad reaction to the birth control pill. Had my son in July of 2007 and have not had a period since. Started the birth control pill on Saturday and literally went nuts. Huge mood swings, dizzy spells every half hour or so, screaming at kids (I'm not even a yeller by nature and I was screaming and swearing at them). Started having thoughts of hurting myself and my kids. Spoke to doctor on Tuesday night and he told me to stop taking the pill. I feel so much better today AND got my period. Was this a reaction to the pill or the worst PMS ever? I've taken the pill before, just not this brand. 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

[ - ] Based on the post below and the chart on Insideschools, D3 and D2 have the highest proportion of 99s. When you consider that those districts also have the strongest district programs, you really have to wonder about whether a district-blind lottery for the citywides is the most appropriate way to assign seats at the citywides. 99s in other districts have fewer options if they don't get a citywide seat. Thoughts? 22 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Just because D3 and D2 have good K-5 "programs" which allow for enrichment only, within other schools does not mean they should not have equal access to K-8 or K-12 gifted schools which allow for enrichment and some acceleration. Yes, there should be more options available in all boroughs, but D3 and D2 shouldn't be penalized either. [ Reply | More ]

honestly I disagree with you on that. I am the OR in Dist 1. If I had the choices of D2 or 3 I wouldn't feel that my whole life depends on my son getting into nest.D2 has 10 options. Sorry but it really should be a blanced act. [ Reply | More ]

But look at the size of the district and the number of kids qualifying. Each individual child in D2 or D3 has no better chance of getting into a good program than your D1 child. In D3 only two of the district options are decent ones and they have just taken one class away from one of them. This means that likely 98s and 97s will be closed out of the top programs [ Reply | More ]

OP: The whole point is that the current system provide UNEQUAL access and fewer opportunities for kids who live outside of these districts. In a world of scarce resources, tough decisions have to be made. It's amazing the difference in opportunities available to kids from outside those districts compared to what D3 and D2 have. Not when you factor in number of kids. D2 and D3 represent roughtly one third of the qualifying kids for citywide. If they get that type of representation in the 175 or so spots for Anderson and Nest then 61 kids will get in representing 18% of the qualifying kids in those districts. District 1 represents roughly 3% of qualifying kids, which means about 5 kids will get in--representing 17% of qualifying kids. [ Reply | More ]

OP: But if the lottery is done blindly, which is what we have heard through informal channels has happened, there is no guarantee of any fair representation in the citywides from outlying districts. It is pure chance. It might happen. Or it might not. [ Reply | More ]

can't reply to OP post below, but while you are right that "chance" may impact that (as well of course as those who chose to submit forms and in fact D2 and D3 are probably likely to have more people who will opt out due to private or other options) it is likely that it will be proportionately representative of the qualifying percentage of the districts. This is why at elementary level focus should be on district programs, IMO. It's not good for 5 yos to commute 2 hours a day, it is a huge strain on their families to accomodate this (especially if there are other children in different schools). Have city-wide programs for MS/HS kids where kids are old enough to commute alone and utilize commute for reading/HW etc. [ Reply | More ]
