OP: for the snarky one up above, I am not myself the mother of a 6 year old so I was just looking for ideas from those who might know what would make a 1st (going on 2nd) grader really happy. I bought them two books each already but I know no one is home reading to theses kids so I want to give something else along with the books that is sort of an independent educational activity. To responder below, Kid's Suduko might be good. Thank you! [ Reply | More ]

You are welcome...there are some sets with lots of blocks at good prices on Amazon. My dds (now 9 and 6) really enjoy playing with the Legos and do so in a variety of ways: sorting by color and size, building matching buildings that look like rainbows, making little villaes and people, making "magic wands." if you're required to be out/moving around to get db to sleep I would consider that a problem, if you don't care about it then no biggie. my ds would fall asleep when out but I didn't want to HAVE to go out to get down for a nap, so I sleep trained. now 18 mo asks for the crib when I tell him it's naptime, just easier imo [ Reply | More ]

I did it at 8 mo then again at 14 mo because he became difficult again...said "naptime", put in crib, would let cry for a few min, go in console (sometimes pickup, not totally consistent w/ this part), let cry longer, repeat. worked better at 14 mo. might/might not be hard w/ an 18 mo, depends on personality. I think it's good to do w/ the transition to 1 nap because db will be really tired but it will be a rough transition, might take a couple weeks to iron out. naps at noon [ Reply | More ]
