[ - ] Did anyone else here ever think they'd never get married or have kids? Once I turned 21 and still hadn't had a real boyfriend or lost my virginity, I felt completely hopeless. I remember being 34 and at my parents house for T'giving. The guests were my 65 y.o. Aunt and a 65 y.o. friend of my moms - both single for a loooong time. Listening to them (the narcisssim and other by-products of being alone for years) was like being Scrooge looking at the Ghost of Christmas Future -- it really shook me up. I got married and divorced in my 20s (no dc). It was such a difficult experience that I thought it was possible I might never get married b/c I was so worried about making similar mistakes etc or that maybe something was wrong with me. I was very definite about the fact that I much preferred to be alone than with the wrong person so I knew that I would not "settle" which might also limit my options. I got married at 18 to a 29 year old - my parents opposed, but i worked so hard to get their approval that they embraced him with open arms - gave birth to my dd at 19 and was divorced at 20. I thought I would never be married again after going through so many ups and downs in such a short time. I wound up meeting my current dh on my 21 birthday, we casually saw each other and drifted apart then he called me out of the blue 5 years later, we wound up getting married soon after and we have been together for 8 years with a 5 year old son and 14mo daughter. [ - ] My dh and I have had a very rough few years...really poor communication, almost no sex. we went to a therapist...things are much better. dh is much more affectionate, better husband, all around a million times nicer. but the attraction part isn't coming back yet. i sometimes feel attracted to him, but other times i think that i can't believe he will be the only person i will be with for the rest of our lives. it's just not hot anymore. it makes me sad. not to get too detailed, but i have to use lube with him and i know that i don't need it (ie. when i'm alone). 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More
