Did anyone else here ever think they'd never get married or have kids? Once I turned 21 and still hadn't had a real boyfriend or lost my virginity, I felt completely hopeless. (ny is the worst place to meet a guy btw) The summer before my senior year of college, I met my dh and we got married at 24 and we now have two sons and a girl on the way! I look back and realize how ridiculous it was to stress over these things when I was still in hs/college. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

i always envisioned myself falling in love in college, getting married soon after and having kids before i was 30 - i wound up never really kissing a guy until i was 20, sleeping with one (dh) until i was almost 22 - got married at 25, dd was born when i was 29 so i just made that fairytale i had in my head [ Reply | More

i grew up in the south so the pressure was on from the day of my debutante ball (yes, i wore a big peach dress with the other girls), my parents pressured my boyfriend and i to get engaged (when i was 20 and he was 19) that we finally broke up, i married my dh at 30 and we have a 2yo and triplets on the way! my 21 year old baby sister is going through that right now - myself and my two younger sisters are married and all three of us are in various stages of pregnancy right now and have kids and a husband already and seeing that and knowing that we've all dated our dh since hs or early college makes her think she wont get that [ Reply | More

I remember being 34 and at my parents house for T'giving. The guests were my 65 y.o. Aunt and a 65 y.o. friend of my moms - both single for a loooong time. Listening to them (the narcisssim and other by-products of being alone for years) was like being Scrooge looking at the Ghost of Christmas Future -- it really shook me up. I got married and divorced in my 20s (no dc). It was such a difficult experience that I thought it was possible I might never get married b/c I was so worried about making similar mistakes etc or that maybe something was wrong with me. I was very definite about the fact that I much preferred to be alone than with the wrong person so I knew that I would not "settle" which might also limit my options. I got married at 18 to a 29 year old - my parents opposed, but i worked so hard to get their approval that they embraced him with open arms - gave birth to my dd at 19 and was divorced at 20. I thought I would never be married again after going through so many ups and downs in such a short time. I wound up meeting my current dh on my 21 birthday, we casually saw each other and drifted apart then he called me out of the blue 5 years later, we wound up getting married soon after and we have been together for 8 years with a 5 year old son and 14mo daughter.
