Sterotyping here, but they tend to dress up a lot, often in designer labels, high heels, lots of makeup..A very "done up" look. Also generally speaking, they are not what I would call "fresh faced" they kind of don't age very well. [ Reply | More ]

I ditto this and would say that even the ones with not as much money, still try to keep up the over the top dressed up look, often to a level of trashiness. [ Reply | More ]

There was a Law and Order episode about this. (that they are kind of gold diggers and love luxurious things.) Not that L&O is reality, but it gives you some idea of the stereotypes. [ Reply | More ]

Congrats. It's a great school. You should call to ask if you can tour just to see but even if you don't, it's really great. Small, warm, thoughtful, engaged. We'll be there in the fall too. [ Reply | More ]

He seems to have one huge testicle instead of two. His belly button is an innie, but it looks different than anyone I've seen before. Just a slight indentation instead of a true "hole." For all I know these things are not related, but just wondering. [ Reply | More ]

Edgewood is less expensive, people there typically aren't as rich and the lots are smaller. (We used to live there.) Greenacres is closer to the train and "village" area, lots are larger. I don't know anything about the relative worth of their elementary schools. [ Reply | More ]

edgewood has the rep for being more down to earth; is also more ethnically diverse. greenacres is close to hartsdale train/village. both are lovely - can't go wrong. [ Reply | More ]

stay a few minutes to make sure she is engaged, and then leave. don't linger, don't let her think you will come and stay if she is crying, otherwise, she will continue to cry. obviously if it just doesn't seem to be working, maybe she is too young, but usually they cry during the actual separation and then are fine a few min after you leave. gl [ Reply | More ]

When you leave say something like "Remember, Mom always comes back to get you just like when Susie takes care of you or when we go to the gym," Obviously use words that will make sense to DC. [ Reply | More ]

The best you can do on short notice is find clip art online - print it on card stock and cut it out. You can try to print the copy of your computer but it would be easier to write it out by hand (If you are going to use the computer to print the copy do not cut out the ticket until AFTER you have printed). ^^^cons: can be programmatic, tends to be taught in group lessons. this is all based on my experience taking violin as a child - I did private lessons (not suzuki) starting at 6 yo - but I don't think it has changed much. You can probably find a private teacher who will not teach suzuki. Just remind your 5 yo that they'll have to practice every day!!! [ Reply | More ]

dc's school music teacher told us not to start anythign until 7, if we were serious about dc keeping with it. the amt of practice needed for most instruments is more than a 5-6 yo can do. better to start 7-9 [ Reply | More ]

Suzuki is absolutely fabulous, even for the very young (3 or 4). Teachers are always positive and encouraging, the method is really fun, practice isn't onerous. It builds huge confidence because they play constantly for each other. The wonderful school we go to (not in NY) for moderate tuition gives you a private lesson and a group lesson every week. At higher levels, you get into fabulous orchestras and chamber music. The childrens' attitude is wonderful and their accomplishments really remarkable. It's a great journey to do with your children, because parents are very much involved. I can't recommend it highly enough. OK, I'll give you one drawback? The method really develops a child's ear for music, but the drawback can be that the kids don't read music all that well. That blip corrected for us as my son got more advanced, and he has no difficulty with reading music or sightreading. Being part of his lessons has really broadened my love of music as well. I really recommend it, you will love it. Oh my son started at 8, but I regretted not getting going earlier. With other methods, it probably is better to wait until 7 or so. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] I am looking for one of those school year books (like my mom had for me) where you have a page for K, 1st, 2nd, etc and then a little pocket to slip in report cards. Does anyone have one they like? Where did you get it. K is over and if I don't get it now, I'll never get it. 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]
