is it necessary to sleep train for naps? i did for night time sleeping since baby was around 7-8 mos but we never got the naps down. he usu goes down for his nap while we're out - in ergo, car, stroller - then we're able to transfer to crib. but would he sleep longer if he knew how to go down on his own in his crib? he's 18 mos and we're just transitioning from 2 to 1 nap. if you're required to be out/moving around to get db to sleep I would consider that a problem, if you don't care about it then no biggie. my ds would fall asleep when out but I didn't want to HAVE to go out to get down for a nap, so I sleep trained. now 18 mo asks for the crib when I tell him it's naptime, just easier imo [ Reply | More ]

I did it at 8 mo then again at 14 mo because he became difficult again...said "naptime", put in crib, would let cry for a few min, go in console (sometimes pickup, not totally consistent w/ this part), let cry longer, repeat. worked better at 14 mo. might/might not be hard w/ an 18 mo, depends on personality. I think it's good to do w/ the transition to 1 nap because db will be really tired but it will be a rough transition, might take a couple weeks to iron out. naps at noon [ Reply | More ]
