it's really which one your baby tolerates the best- we used the Costco Kirkland brand. I think formula is regulated. That said, ita with above posters who said go to milk [ Reply | More ]

I had yeast infections chronically during pregnancy- OB said any otc cream was fine, but better to use the extended treatment (3 or 7 days for example) rather than the 1 day treatments, not sure why (less strong, I guess?) I had a bad reaction to Monistat when I was pregnant (you can google it actually, and see that a lot of women have had this reaction) so I always used other brands [ Reply | More ]

If you have a younger child (sibling) MSC would be the safer route since you don't have to worry about them qualifying for the G&T. I'm sure both are solid choices, though. [ Reply | More ]

I would not put my dc in 166, the principal is a wacko and the lack of diversity in the G&T send a very clear message –black, hispanic is average and white is gifted----uuugh [ Reply | More ]

MSC is a great school, many smart dcs and lots of diversity - I'd go for it. [ Reply | More ]

MSC. I turned down MSC, but for PS87 gen ed which just happens to be a better fit for DD. I personally favor a good gen ed over a mediocre g&t. MSC is a fantastic program all around, hard to beat. [ Reply | More ]

There are a number of parents in our year at 166 who turned down 87 and 199 for G&T at 166. We have been very happy and wouldn't it. Yes the principal is not the best, but the parent coordinator is terrific. [ Reply | More ]

166. The class is going to be super smart this year. In current system (always moving target) sibling only needs 90+ and can reapply every year. [ Reply | More ]

If you have a smart child do you want that child parked on his or her in front of a book while the teacher struggles (again) to teach the rest of the class he alphabet? In mixed level classes teachers always need to cater to the average or below average. Your child will be bored [ Reply | More ]

Not what happens at MSC - my dcs are both smart and tested into G&T but we opted for MSC - they loved it, have not been bored. [ Reply | More ]

Oh for God’s sake, would you people stop with this untrue bull already? Daughter, granddaughter, niece, of early childhood educators here…went through 12 years of gifted education myself. That's such a ridiculous generalization. It might be true in some schools but not a place like MSC. G&T parents have to get over their egos and realize that maligning gen ed is stupid. Plenty of super-smart DCs have done amazing work in gen ed. Get over yourselves already. In any case, most gen eds do have the advantage socially, with a greater diversity of population and offerings. There are some pretty crappy g&ts out there, and in those cases any child would be better off in a decent gen ed. [ Reply | More ]

Maybe, but too many parents here speak like ALL g&ts are great and ALL gen eds will bore their brilliant babies. 166 isn't crappy, but with ALL aspects considered it's not necessarily better than MSC. I'd take MSC in a heartbeat. They have a lot of extras to offer and are a better rounded program, in my opinion. Others may not agree, but to state that ANY 90+ child will be bored in ANY gen ed is...an uneducated opinion. [ Reply | More ]

Amen and there's a lot to learn in K along with academics. Handling that long day and lots of transitions can be challenging -- even for "gifted" DC. [ Reply | More ]

Also a lot of G&T's only have 1 class per grade--can get really incestuous after a couple of years. Many dcs can benefit from being around different kids (of the same age) in the playground, cafeteria, afterschool, etc. It's not always so bad being around people who are different--ie, lower iq'd. There's a lot to learn in just that, because those same kids might be way better in art, or socializing, or sports, or music, or something else. It takes all kinds to make this world, and learning that is also an important part of school. I think it's easier to supplement academics than supplement a well-rounded experience. [ Reply | More ]
