In all honesty there are very few math folks on UB. Only a math guy (or girl) would have had any reason to compare the above programs. Most parents hear a little of this, a little of that and then post. Also, there are students who will thrive in math no matter what program, students who won't, students who will be ok with any program, students who won't and a VERY, VERY small percentage of students who absolutely NEED a specific approach. I can explain, but it's way easier to watch the video. If you go to Youtube and search illiterate TERC, you'll find it. It's a mathematician who demonstrates how to solve a problem using all three programs [ Reply | More ]

TERC and Everyday Math are what people call New New Math (or Fuzzy Math). It is heavy on concept and light on repetition and mastery. EM relies on Spiraling, which means a topic like Probability may first show itself in a game in Kindergarten, then show up again the next year in another form and so on. Different light exposures to each topic, if you will. Singapore Math is more sequential, and builds up once a topic is mastered. It has more repetition and focuses on mastery of a topic before building on it. If you google, you will find quite a bit of info on each one. [ Reply | More ]

Same thing happened with me at 34 weeks - turns out I was dehydrated and having tiny contractions (forgot what they were called). BUT it was not preterm labor, and I agree with previous poster - call OB, put feet up, drink tons of water, and R-E-L-A-X. I eventually went into the hospital and they had to give me a shot to calm my uterus. Not fun. [ Reply | More ]

the problem with the opk's is that it is within 24-48 hours, that means you could be ovulating this morning, and if you wait to have set till tonight, you will miss the window. It's really not good to rely on those tests, because sperm can last up to five days, and it needs time to get up into your tubes so that it is there when the egg is released. If you are only having sex when the opk says to, you may easily be missing your window. [ Reply | More ]

than the first day was the day to have sex. It never hurts to have sex later, because it is possible that you ovulate late, but the person that said to have sex the day after tomorrow as well isn't wrong, it's just that the chances of sex tomorrow or the day after getting you pregnant is not as good as the chance of yesterday (the day before the line), or right at the time of the line. Most people take these tests in the morning, and then have sex at night, if you do this, you may miss your window. [ Reply | More ]

my DS is 3 1/2 and is in this stage as well. We don't have a formal naptime anymore but he still will fall asleep (in stroller, in car or even on the couch in the afternoon) and then those nights its tough to get him to bed, but I keep him to his usual schedule (maybe give him an extra half hour or so) and he will eventually fall asleep. Its a tough phase. [ Reply | More ]

basically the same times. When he naps he is often awake in his bed until about 9:00, but I always put him in by 8:30. His naps are usually 45 mins - 1.5 hours at this point. SOmetimes, I wake him up after an hour or so, but I believe that he needs that sleep, so I won't completely sabotage his nap. [ Reply | More ]

At 3yo he was still napping regularly, although a lot of his friends were not, many bc of the problem you're having. By 3 1/2, what we found is that it worked best to have 3-4 naps/week. Skipping them altogether was too much as he can't go to bed too early since we both WOH. By 4yo, the regular nap was gone - but he would nap occasionally - like maybe 1-2x/month. [ Reply | More ]

You can't really count it that way, people have all different lengths of periods. You need to count from the first day of red blood of your period (not spotting). The average is 14 days from start of period, my OB recommended sex every other day from day 10 to day 18. [ Reply | More ]

not much... according to my ob, it's a bit of a rip off. The only thing it really helps is to know that you are ovulating, few women who don't ovulate produce the hormone. It also helps you to establish a pattern. If you keep track of when you ovulate, than you can more easily predict in advance when you will ovulate, the same way you would do if you are temping. It can also be helpful if you can have sex as soon as you get the positive, but I'm assuming your dh is at work right now. [ Reply | More ]

No problem. For what it's worth, the old fashioned advice of having sex every other day is the best, and once you get a positive on the opk, have sex once more and call it a month. I know how hard this is when you have an irregular cycle. This is going to sound gross, but when I'm ttc I track my cervical mucus instead, it changes a couple days before you ovulate. My agent is very angry, especially with the lame response from the editor. But she doesn't want to torpedo my book until reviews are in (which I am nervous about, there are huge plot point errors in the catalog and ARC copy). She said if the reviews are good, the publisher won't just throw away my $200+K advance. Everything is just so chaotic compared to my last book - and everyone (me, agent, editor, publisher) agrees this book is better than last. [ Reply | More ]

Depending on wording, OP has to at least show the proposal for the new book to her editor and let them officially pass on it before signing somewhere else. If she embarrasses her editor, she can expect even less attention than she's gotten. [ Reply | More ]
