It depends where OP lives as to the minimum wage. Many states in the country have a minimum wage of $7.25/hour, including three of the first four states voting in the Democratic primary next year (Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina). Nevada minimum wage is $8.50. [ Reply | More ]

Not worried at all. Don't give her tantrums "currency" by making them something more than they are. Define "binge eating". Do you mean you never mindlessly eat? Never eat a big meal? Only eat when hungry? In this context, is splurging (like having that second slice of pizza or extra mashed potatoes and stuffing at Thanksgiving) the same as binging? [ Reply | More ]

I define it as eating when you aren't hungry, so I think those are all potential examples. If you're eating the second slice of pizza because you're hungry, that's not binging. If you're full enough to stop, but eat the pizza anyway, that's binging. [ Reply | More ]

I hear you, but obesity is a real and huge problem in our country right now. I'm not reading these things and thinking about getting rail thin. I'm reading them and hoping for ideas on how to get my BMI down to a healthy range again. You of course are seeing it through your personal lens, but if I didn't weigh myself consistently I'd gain even more weight. I know, because it's happened. Clothes these days are stretchy and "flattering" and you can't tell you've gained weight until you're up 15lb. I repeat- I'm not anorexic, I am just trying to lose weight. [ Reply | More ]

I like food that are not fattening (vegetables, lean meat...), and eat a fruit or a boiled egg as snack. I have a weakness for candies and chocolates though. I weight myself regularely, and when I reach my upper limit, I stop candies and chocolates for 1 week or two until the weight goes down. That said, I've always been the same weight except when pregnant, so my metabolism is working fine. [ Reply | More ]

Eat slowly, savor the flavors and textures and really chew your food. Give your body a chance to indicate that you’re full. Also, it helps that I am a mother now. I try to set a good example for my son. He gets a kick out of admitting to his peers that he’s never consumed soda. He’s not obnoxious about it. And they kind of look at him like he’s an alien. But he still enjoys it. He’s 10. [ Reply | More ]

UB recommended the book the truth about cosmetic surgery and it talks about another book, you the manual. Anyone read it? Anyway, this plastic surgeon says the keys to healthy weight - when focused on WHAT to eat - are a bite or two of fat at first (fish? edamame? He's not a fan of dairy and meat, and fish only 3 times a week) and the rest of the time vegetables, fruit, whole grains... He also thinks half a glass to 2 glasses (for taller people, men) of wine is beneficial. IMHO that latter part is probably for being social? relationships? less stress? So less about what and more about the context. HTH [ Reply | More ]

I think if you could spend the whole summer there it might be worth it. Just weekends, probably not. We have a condo by the beach (1400 sq ft) where we live in the summer and a house in the burbs (2400 sq) where we live the rest of the year. They are 40 miles apart. I sometimes think we should flip that and live in a condo in the burbs and a big house by the beach. That way we could host lots of people in the summer. Our far flung friends would much rather come to the beach than the burbs to visit us. [ Reply | More ]
