That’s not my main focus right now. I used a tutor for this before who was good but she was 150 per hour. I might use her again but not until the winter. I want someone to stray now to do just general tutoring and I hope that they are cheaper. Maybe like a college student or something. [ Reply | More ]

You should absolutely tutor for Hunter test. Most kids do. I tutor kids in the writing and ELA sections. Some kids can do it without tutoring. Most benefit from some practice and understanding the expectations. Keller Prep is not bad for Hunter prep. [ Reply | More ]

I don’t believe this at all. Lots of men still do this arrangement esp if the mom doesn’t work. It is sort of selfish otherwise. And many moms that I know perfect to have more than 50% even if they do work because it helps to manage school etc. like I know a mom who does every other weekend with ex (fri/sat/sun) but then the ex only has Wednesday night during the week instead of having two nights. It works for them. [ Reply | More ]

The man who is interested in dating me is 35, seemingly wonderful, and wants more kids (he has a four yo daughter)... but I just feel very concerned, especially since I was a child of divorce and remember very clearly how awful it was to deal with my father's girlfriends. Still, this man seems special so I was thinking about giving it a chance. But sounds like I should probably steer clear. [ Reply | More ]

Unfortunately all of my friends in real life tell me that I am crazy to even consider dating him--just bc of the child, there are no other red flags and they like him otherwise. not yet. if you are single at 38, yes. You still have a few years before you need to go that route which is way more complicated. Focus on men your age who re ready to settle down. Honestly, i know its judgemental, but i think a divorced man with small kids is a high-risk bet. Its so hard raising a young child, that basically NO women would want a divorce unless the man were more trouble than he was worth. OR, he bailed because he cant put his own needs aside for his young children. If the kids are older, teens, ok, they tried to make it work, but splitting up when the kid(s) is under 5? A woman who had his own child cant live with him. [ Reply | More ]

Dalton and Saint Ann’s. Dd at k-12 downtown, so not looking at many. Thinking that Saint Anna is the type of school that wouldn’t care about parent’s educational background but would care about their current professions. [ Reply | More ]

Applied last year for 9. I think all - or almost all - asked about parent education. However, that matters a whole lot less than it does for K. Fwiw, dd got into TT and both parents went to undergrad at not exciting state universities. [ Reply | More ]

The parents' educational background and career path is the best predictor of where a child will go and what s/he will do. Why wouldn't they ask that? [ Reply | More ]

i dont know how it is now, but i went to a TT NYC. They asked for my parents educational info (both attended public schools, neither went to college). It must not have mattered. I do wonder how I got in, but my parents think it's because I could read at age 3, and they were in the arts (not famous tho). Obviously, if the parents went to prep school/Ivys, it indicates that they would be a more obvious fit, and are sure bets when it comes to exmissions. [ Reply | More ]

I’m surprised that Trinity doesn’t ask for parental educational background. Their college list is so impressive so I would have thought that legacy status played a part. But I guess not. [ Reply | More ]

schools care for 2 reasons: legacy and first generation college kids. dh graduated from top college and i went to a no-name one but Ivy for grad school. it is their attempt to game college admissions. a # of DCs at DC's school went to HYPSM and nearly all their parents are alum, so clearly on schools' radars. Yes. Was demoted (and bullied) when I returned from maternity leave. I tuned out all the politics and noise and just remained focused. The bullying boss left after about a year, I got a new boss who gave me tremendous opportunity and a lot of exposure to upper management. My confidence soared and I eventually left to start my own business, and the upper management of this company is a large client. I am making great money, work mostly from home and have a lot of time for my kids. [ Reply | More ]
