I didn't confirm it because I thought I might've mis-heard him and I didn't want to confirm it anyway. He also said that it's "definitive" that my baby's sex is confirmed. To use that word, it seems to even more confirm that it's a boy. Now I kind of want to know to be 100% sure since I feel 90% sure of what I heard. Wwyd? 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Switch OBs. What a thoughtless ass. But for whatever it's worth, a friend of mine had the sono tech refer to her baby as "she," and then it was a boy. So, you never know, sometimes people just use a pronoun and it doesn't mean anything. [ Reply | More ]

I'm going to get flamed for this, but I think everyone is getting a little crazy about how soon kids talk. I know a couple of kids who were late speaking and everyone freaked out. It was obvious that the kids were perfectly intelligent, and it made my heart hurt to see the mothers have such anxiety about it. I know early intervention is important when there is a problem, but I think there is a lot of paranoia, too. If you know in your heart that there is nothing wrong with your son, that's your answer. It's on the low end of normal. DD was evaluated for EI at that age, with about that many words, but there were other factors at play - she wasn'y always responsive to loud noises and there is a family history of pediatric deafness in my family, so we were very concerned. She was mildly delayed, but not enough to qualify for services. She was completely caught up by the time she turned 2 (without intervention) - she went from grunting and pointing to "Momma, milk please" literally overnight. She was just one of those kids who didn't want to talk until she knew how to really express herself. GL. [ Reply | More ]

Many cases are this way, but many are not. My opinion is that you should seek services as soon as possible. My ds turned out to have a significant delay at 2 yo and is still receiving services at 5 yo. He is otherwise a very bright, healthy, smart (98 SB, 99 Olsat) kid, but I fully believed that he might not be this way had we not sought intervention early on. [ Reply | More ]

My dd had very few words at 16 months, but "communicated" well. Ped told me he wasn't concerned, but I did see it documented in her chart (expressive lang delay). By 2, she was exceptionally verbal, and still is. Everyone gives me a hard time about saying she was delayed, but she was. I got some sign lang. tapes that taught words. Maybe it helped, maybe it was just her time. [ Reply | More ]
