Thanks. We already know some of the kids who are now in K going to 1st in the fall. My real question is how to handle the social issue of current classmates advancing and DC being held back. They will see each other in the halls and on the playground [ Reply | More ]

np: Our school is telling us that kids don't really question what happens to other kids at this age. We are in a new district, DS is past the age cutoff. We tried 2 months of 1st grade this spring, he isn't cut out to be with kids up to 18 months older than him. He'll be repeating 1st grade. [ Reply | More ]

I think they are. I was thinking about it today and at some point down the road when we switch to middle school, which might be private school (we're in public school now), I can see that DC would be held back then. Better to have the grade hold back now, when they're too young to notice. At least that's how I'm selling it [ Reply | More ]

held back for what? and I'm not sure I would worry, so many parents hold kids back on their own these days, its not like when we were kids and the one old one in the class stood out like a sore thumb [ Reply | More ]

The school thinks DC will benefit from another year of 1st grade. DC is well below current grade level but hasn't tested for any learning issues. (which is to say, has no learning issues, just is behind. We missed kindergarten. Long story) [ Reply | More ]

Call the schools that you listed to see if your child is on the Pre-K roster. By the way, the issue that no one's really addressing is that this new policy discriminates against children who are "onlies" or first born. [ Reply | More ]

All depends on the type of work they will be doing AND what the rules of the co-op are as laid out in the shareholders agreement/rules. [ Reply | More ]

It doesn't matter if you use union or non union. Most coops ask for proof of insurance from any contractor working in the building. both union and non union have these. [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 05.30.08, 07:39 PM Flag

OR...this is true and this is what I was thinking about...most co-ops want to know the workers are 'bonded', which means insured. For my building, bonded trades people are only required for plumbing, electrical, and other 'structural/significant' work. Not painting or tiling or refinishing floors etc. [ Reply | More ]
