i know. i would have had a hard time navigating the whole public system, trying to get the kids into good schools....i guess i could have done it, but would not want to put so much energy into it. now in suburbia, where all schools are good. thank god. [ Reply | More ]

No worry about zoning in the suburbs? I highly doubt that. In fact, a lot about buying a house in the burbs is about what school district you're zoned for. [ Reply | More ]

Dirty, congested, crowded, very aggressive people (can't believe all the stabbings even in the so called posh areas), expensive, terrible infrastructure, private school costs GBP 25K a yr and are not easy to get in. I just don't like it here and feel 2 yrs was a fair try- not just giving up. [ Reply | More ]

It's funny, I'm english and from London and even I much prefer NYC to London. Your description of it being dirty, congested etc is spot on and I don't know about you but I find NYC a lot more child friendly in general than London, I can happily live in NYC with a baby but would not want to live in London with one. As soon as we decided we wanted kids we relocated to a village outside the city called Theydon Bois in Essex. It's nice but expensive, near Epping Forest which lovely for walks etc.....not sure about the shools though haven't looked in to it. Kent is nice (where Sevenoaks is) but if you're wanting the convenience of city living that NYC offers I don't think you're going to find anywhere that matches up to NYC in the UK, and like you said life is just too short!
