I disagree with you. If he was unarmed and outnumbered, then there was not much that he could have done. If they only smacked her ponytail (and I know that is invasive and infuriating) then I don't think he should have put both of them at further risk. I really hate saying this because I am someone who can't stand to be hurt by others or to see others being hurt in any way, but I really think that to have confronted them would have meant putting both in a much more dangerous situation.
