for serious skiing or take the kids once type thing. if with kids, we like okemo in VT, though that may be more like 4 hrs. we took our kids to ski sundown in CT for their first time skiing, which was nice. my mom went to school with the owner of ski sundown, which is how we found out about it. no lodging nearby though. we did vrbo.com for the weekend [ Reply | More

Catamount (Egremont, NY) or Butternut in the Great Barrington area. 2-2.5 hours, reasonable rates and night skiing. Not on-site lodging, but plenty of area lodging from inns/B&Bs to Howard Johnson Express. Very friendly mountains. Catamount has good ski school for kids. [ Reply | More
