Is anyone signing up your DCs for remote "camps" this summer to focus on academics? We are at our vacation home and have a pool, so kids will be outside for much of the day. I'm thinking maybe 2-3 hours of camp in the mornings. DCs age 12 and 10. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Have you asked them? Are you working each day or enjoying a much needed summer break? [ Reply | More ]

Well I told them they would need to do this--they aren't exactly jumping for joy. Yes, need to work most days. [ Reply | More ]

DS and I worked out a deal where he's getting some extra allowance if he works on his writing this summer in a couple of online classes, BUT he is behind his classmates and knows he needs to catch up. If he was on track, I'd let him take a break. Especially if I had your outdoor space. [ Reply | More ]

We are trapped in a small NYC apartment for the summer, with two adults working full-time from home, but the kids (ages 12 and 16) are adamantly refusing to do any virtual camps or programs. They are sick of remote learning. If we had a pool, or any outdoor space, it wouldn't even be a consideration. [ Reply | More ]

This. Just make sure they read, and you're good. If your kid is struggling in a specific area and needs remedial help, that's a different story, of course. But that would be the same, pandemic or not. [ Reply | More ]
