2-Year Moratorium on requirement AND consideration of SAT and/or ACT test scores for Caltech. This makes it the first selective school to go test-blind since standardized tests began to be widely used. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Hmm... I don't understand this. With all the variance in how schools are operating by region it seems a standard test would be helpful. Especially given how many schools don't have grades right now [ Reply | More ]

It's very unusual. We are in California, though, and my rising senior attends a school that does not administer SAT or ACT during the school day. Her April and June ACT tests were cancelled, and she was shut out of July. She got an error for the August SAT and got an SAT date for September. So I'm sure their decision has more to do with limited access to testing. [ Reply | More ]

Access to testing is definitely driving the decision for next year, but schools are extending it into the following year so they can assess whether they should eliminate completely. There's a lot of conversation on the inequalities of testing due to test prep, etc. The UC system announced a few weeks ago that they will be phasing out over the next 4 years and possibly developing their own test. I know. They say they'll go test-blind if they cannot figure out a way to make an equitable test. There really is no way to make it equitable as long as there is an entire industry devoted to providing test prep for those willing to pay big bucks. [ Reply | More ]

They are going test-blind for kids graduating high school in ‘23 and ‘24. Napolitano wants two years worth of test-blind results to compare with the two years of test-optional results she gets from the classes of ‘21 and 22. [ Reply | More ]

As an alum, it makes me so happy you typed it correctly as Caltech and not CalTech. But yes this is to account for reduced access to testing and to try out getting rid of the exam totally and see how it goes. Many graduate schools have eliminated the GRE requirement. [ Reply | More ]
