Amy Cooper is getting her dog back. She can’t possibly stay in the city, right? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Where is she originally from? I thought I read Canada, but that may have only been for undergrad. [ Reply | More ]

She went to my school - very, very few Americans. She is most likely a Canadian citizen with a green card. [ Reply | More ]

^^ also, much of my college was "co-op" work-study 5 year program and she attended from '98-'03. No non-Canadians/non-Canadian PR in the co-op program, so she 100% has Canadian citizenship. [ Reply | More ]

Interesting. It could be that one of her parents is American. [ Reply | More ]

It's pretty easy for Canadians with good qualifications to get work visas, and the wait after GC approval is short (unlike Indians or Chinese who wait decades). DH & I are both Canadians, came here first on TN visas (also available for Americans who want to work in Canada), transitioned to H1B so we could apply for GCs, and got GC approved and actual GC in 2 years. ^^ why do you think that she has a U.S. parent? I'd say 1/3 of my class from Waterloo have worked or are working in the U.S. The ones who are still here all have U.S. citizenship by now (as well as retaining Canadian citizenship). [ Reply | More ]

^^^ approx. 700k-1m Canadians live in the U.S. (if you include dependents). [ Reply | More ]

OR. I'm also a Canadian working the US. I came on an L1-A visa, transitioned to green card and then citizenship. It's not unreasonable to suggest she has an American parent. Many Canadians do. [ Reply | More ]

Ok. It's just that Waterloo has a particularly large U.S. contingent. Didn't think parentage was a factor in the move to the States. I've also attended a few CANY events, again similar. [ Reply | More ]

As long as she's an American citizen, who hasn't been duly convicted of any crime, she can stay where she pleases. [ Reply | More ]

^^and I don't approve of what she did. But the same laws that protect her also protect all of us. Stay safe, everyone. [ Reply | More ]

Will people recognize her? Wouldn’t she be relatively anonymous in her mask? Maybe the dog would be a tip-off. [ Reply | More ]

The question isn't about the legality of where she lives. It's about how can she show her face in public, who will hire her, who would want to socialize with her. [ Reply | More ]

NP: Using public shaming as a tool to combat racism sounds ok to me. Society is at a tipping point; let's make it better. [ Reply | More ]

Couple of problems with that. First, her racism, or anything else, has not been determined, so this opens the door for people taking the law into their own hands. Second, it can have no limit. Today it's a scarlet A. Tomorrow a Scold's Bridle. The day after, who knows? [ Reply | More ]

What? Her racism has been determined. It was captured on video. She falsely claimed to the police that a black man was threatening her. [ Reply | More ]

You saw the video and so did I. So did a lot of people. Her guilt, whether filing a false report or anything else, has not been determined by any judge or jury. [ Reply | More ]
