I feel like covid has just killed opportunity for so many - us included. DH (laid off) has a word doc where he keeps a record of every job he's applied to and we are now closing in on 500 with 2 interviews - and that's not even counting all the networking and linkedin messages. I feel like we are screwed for a long time and I have no idea what to do. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Shutting the country will be viewed as perhaps one of the biggest mistakes in history. 40 million unemployed, and trillions of tax dollars wasted on the bailout. We are just seeing the beginning of the problems with the economic unrest. [ Reply | More ]

It was a mistake to shut the country instead of keeping the older and vulnerable population indoors. History will not look kindly at our blunders. Which, in NYC, continue. [ Reply | More ]

Hindsight is 2020. The world was collectively in uncharted territory for this coronavirus. Lots of countries effed up not just the US. [ Reply | More ]

Well they had to that because they refused to shut down flights on time, have tests and facilities ready, institute mandatory quarantine for hot-spot arrivals. I can go on but you get the picture. Also, this shut down did not hurt as bad in European countries, because they have much stronger safety net. the mistake is allowing our society to be where we are - atrocious health care, poverty, money grab for corporations. Totally agree with lack of safety net and operating like a third world country . Loss of jobs and loss of health insurance, our kids end up paying eventually. [ Reply | More ]

Op, how long has it been? I know it’s hard. Dh lost his job but landed his dream job. It was due to a LinkedIn posting. Good luck. [ Reply | More ]

That’s not very long. Dh was told by a recruiter it takes on average 6-9 months to find a new job and that it will probably be due to networking. I am in flyover (a big 5 city) so maybe it’s different here. [ Reply | More ]

that sounds right - but the response rate is so low it makes me despair even for 6-9 mos. [ Reply | More ]

Don’t despair. Hang in there. It’s a lousy time to be looking for work. It’ll happen! [ Reply | More ]
