Well, a a white family we've been trying to look at all the social dynamics and personal strategies that led to both our kids being in very desirable and not very diverse Manhattan public schools. We had interesting and difficult discussions with our kids. Not sure about a lottery per se, but something has to be done, now. [ Reply | More ]

OP that's cool. My kids have always been in title 1 schools. white kids are about 6-8%. I won't send them to a failing hs. stakes are too high [ Reply | More ]

HOw is the DOE pushing for this when that would mean having to provide transportation to all these kids going to faraway schools? They already hate paying for busing, from what I hear. [ Reply | More ]

DOE does not need to provide transportation for this age group. HS you get a metro card. MS you get a metro card except in 6th grade some MS provide yellow bussing. [ Reply | More ]

It should be about 1 teacher with 30 kids teaching to some who are above grade level while others need extra help. Kids should be grouped by level! Does not matter to me if it’s grouping within 1 school or across schools. But there should be some sort of tracking, and not based on the 200 lucky 4 yr olds that get g&t after much prepping while many others get nothing and are equally qualified [ Reply | More ]

x1,000. I have 2 very different kids and can see why tracking is needed. One is way ahead and needs to be challenged. The other one is behind in certain subjects and needs extra help, which I provide for now. [ Reply | More ]
