she's having panic attacks DAILY. have you ever had one?? I doubt it or you would know why she would need and want immediate relief. some of us don't have gobs and gobs or time and money to spend in the therapists chair. maybe a short term solution is all that is needed right now [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 05.23.08, 07:20 AM Flag

yes, I actually am fully recovered from panic attacks, so I know of what I speak. I do believe it is not serving herself (or her db) to take addictive drugs right now - maybe her OB would okay 1 or 2 pills, but that should be it. There is short term CBT that could help her, it doesn't take a long time. Another poster gave great concrete tips to help that don't require meds either. Longer term therapy will most likely be needed, but if she's motivated she can cure this. [ Reply | More ]

listen. I'm not a dr and don't pretend to be like some ppl here. You've been in therapy and obviously not helping. I don't take meds so I'm not trying to push them either. But I do believe that some ppl need and benefit from meds in your situation. I think you should try it and see if it helps you. GL [ Reply | More ]

i had self-diagnosed ppd after dc was born. had panic attacks as well. i didn't want to use medication. i worked very hard to set up a routine that i felt comfortable with adn it helped a lot. [ Reply | More ]

i had dh do most of the shopping/errands. i would only go to the store if i knew exactly what i needed. (e.g. what item, what brand, what price, etc.). i had a good routine for the day, even allowing for dc's erratic schedule. i would go for a walk and know where i was going to go. no random "help, i don't know what to do" moments if i could avoid them. i made a cleaning schedule and a menu so that i didn't have to panic. i just had to check my list. it was slow but i steadily grew out of my panic attacks. thank you. i think there's a place for medication but i also think that it's possible to work things through without medication. especially if you are self aware. the op has to make a judgement about herself adn her situation. she knows best about how severe these are. [ Reply | More ]

^^^also, i just saw your post from below. cut yourself some slack. your db sounds like it's still very young. you are going to be tired. it's normal to feel overwhelmed. but try to figure out what triggers your bad moments and then work to avoid them. i think that's a very healthy attitude. op: oh, and i feel like it's my fault that i'm having attacks because i drank a lot of tea (caffeine) this a.m. because my insomnia made me tired. a cycle and i blame myself. like i should know to not have any tea but i was too tired to function. is it my fault? should i just give him some formula today? but you never said this, so what am I to assume - you repeatedly say you want to take these pills, so I assumed you weren't willing to look at the source of the attacks (see above, I'm btdt) Not trying to be mean, just playing devil's advocate [ Reply | More ]

all the guilt is part of your ppd. You need to go to the dr tell them what's going on and let them help you. They should tell you what you need to do - ie how to decrease bf, get onto your meds and dietary moderation if necessary. Do you have help at home w/ db- I mean family support? [ Reply | More ]

no family support at all other than dh. my mom and sister act jealous of him. they don't come see him or me. that may add to my depression. [ Reply | More ]

Go talk with Dr. Catherine Birndorff at New York Presp. She's an expert in this stuff. 212-746-3979. She's helped me tremendously to figure out how to deal with anxiety problems and also the scoop on benzos. Some are actually much safer than others. Call her. [ Reply | More ]
