Going to Massachussetts is too far for us, so we're looking at NY & Ct upstate. Wondering what Litchfield is LIKE...the tone of the place? Not interested in the Hamptons scene--and it's just really $$$. [ Reply | More ]

Litchfield is wonderful. The locals aren't always the warmest to NY'ers, but it doesn't bother me. I seriously considered moving there fulltime but decided against. Lots to do, good restaurants, beautiful country and close! [ Reply | More ]

I grew up in Litchfield County, and it is really a beautiful part of the world. As long as you don't bring any sense of entitlement with you and try to fit in, you'll love it there. [ Reply | More ]

What is popular to do there...like Millbrook is horsey for example. You'll probably laugh, but part of the reason I'm interested in it is that the architecture of the area is so darn gorgeous. I love antiquing, love a good library & good bookstore. Like playing tennis...are there community courts or only country clubs? Any cultural stuff in the summer, like Tanglewood in the Berkshires? There's horses, restaurants, tons of antiques, public tennis, country club, but surprisingly no book store. I'd love to open one. [ Reply | More ]
