Episcopal vs. 92Y. Arguably the two best preschool programs. Aside from Jewish/non-Jewish, what are the major differences? Any parents look at/tour both and have opinions? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

what -- you needed to look it up? "Arguably" is a fine word. [ Reply | More ]

I said arguably. People are entitled to different opinions. Whatever you think, these are very fine schools. The question was really around the differences between the two (excluding the obvious religious difference). Would be grateful if people could he lp with that part. [ Reply | More ]

We chose Episcopal even though we live much closer to the Y. I didn't like the physical environment at the Y. The classrooms and play area were fine but the common areas are so grungy and the security is off-putting. [ Reply | More ]

The Jewish education at the Y is the main difference. They don't celebrate secular holidays and they teach a lot about Jewish holidays. [ Reply | More ]

For instance, how do the 2 schools compare on these CRITERIA: 1) quality of PSDs; 2) facilities; 3) nature of the parent body; 4) philosophy (developmental vs traditional)? [ Reply | More ]

On the PSDs, Nancy seemed nice and genuine. Judith was OK but she is political and helped engineer the firing of the previous PSD who she worked for [ Reply | More ]

Episcopal is one on one with the director who plays on the floor with the child. The Y has a large group mingling throughout a classroom with teachers. Much more chaotic. Thought we got much more personal attention at E. [ Reply | More ]

Episcopal is more traditional but very nurturing. The weekly chapel is a very sweet experience for children to share with their parents. ^^^ the quality of teachers is great overall but some are better than others. PSD is very professional and does her job well. I don't know much about the Y because we didn't look at it. [ Reply | More ]

what if the parents are agnostic and don't care about the chapel? can the school still be a good fit? [ Reply | More ]

yes. the chapel is ecumenical and just emphasizes sharing, caring, etc... They include folk-tales, holidays from multiple religions. Lots of happy non-Christian parents there. [ Reply | More ]
