This woman and her children would walk right into a top modeling agency; get sent out on the best accounts and she is saying "it isn't a sane world in which a child should develop her/his sense of self". I go out with friends once or twice a month. I stopped reading parent books, started reading books, new york times, new yorker, started yoga, knitting, art, and trying to have date night once a month. start doing things for yourself once the kids are in bed and try and carve out time on the weekend just for you [ Reply | More ]

how many dcs and how old? do you have other sahm friends? i was happiest as a sahm when i had a group of friends w/the same age kids. we got together frequently with and without kids. we'd do dinner and bedtime playdates together when dhs worked late. it was more fun to feed and bathe kids in a group. now we all have so many kids and varied schedules so it's not as much fun. I'm surprised the teacher let her read it. The poetry readings can be hit or miss. I remember one where they had to use the letters MOTHERS DAY to say something about their mom. "D is for my mommy's Diet" and "H is for we don't have Housekeepers anymore." I thought it was bad when I was fat and my dd said my favorite food was Big Macs and Dad's favorite food was Beer. It's kind of the cost of being successful that no one tells you about. They simply don't have time to be your boyfriend, etc. anymore, and the marriage suffers. The 2nd wife is usually found through work, and they understand going in that they're not going to get much time, and they're not used to it, either. As long as they're provided for, they keep quiet. I got therapy and realized that dh is too screwed up and it will be better for me and db (20 months). therapy definitely helped put it all in perspective - I was in denial. good luck!!!! [ Reply | More ]
