In NYC and moving at the end of the month. Having movers pack us for the first time ever. Any tips? (It's a very close move so can move some things on our own and likely will). [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

zomg the one time we did this, the movers made me so crazy. My only advice is to pack your own small things that you'll need right away in brightly labeled boxes (surface of kitchen table, counter, bathroom surface items, dresser, similar) and then leave the house while they work. I was like "wait I'm still working on this area," and they pretended not to understand me, and I had a tantrum about it. I went out for ice cream, my husband had to manage the dudes, and the day lives in infamy. [ Reply | More ]

Oh no! Yes I am planning to both be done with my packing small items AND to be out of the house while they are there (though I'll be managing DC and pets in the new location, so not sure I got the right end of the coin flip there) [ Reply | More ]

Anything that you pack and they move is not covered by mover's insurance. Have all breakables packed by movers. [ Reply | More ]
