Anyone know anything about soccer. Is it possible to know at 13 which kids will be able to play D1 in college? Being told that DS is on that path, Coach has no financial interest as is suggesting he will need to leave the current team to optimize these chances and play at the highest level. DS loves his teammates so not sure what to think, leaving the team for a better one might also mean giving up chance to play HS soccer [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I think truly great players get recruited by pro team at 13-14, so maybe? [ Reply | More ]

I'm a professional soccer coach. Yes, it's possible. I assume coach is suggesting he play for a DA team. That said, don't assume playing D1 soccer guarantees any scholarship money. That's a big myth about D1 sports in general. If DS is committed and strongly wants to develop to his full potential, go for it. If he's happy to stay on his team, that's great as well. This trade-off would be purely for the benefit of his soccer skills and potential to play in more challenging environments. Don't get caught up in anything else you may think that DA or D1 soccer implies for his future. [ Reply | More ]

You can know your kid has the potential - you can't know that he actually will. [ Reply | More ]
