Would you take your kids to a kid birthday party in an nyc playground this afternoon? My friend invited everyone and I'm a bit hesitant about going...having major anxiety. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I would give them masks and bring hand sanitizer. I think outdoors and moving around a lot is okay, especially with masks on. [ Reply | More ]

Masks and sanitizer. You can always make an excuse of why you have to leave if people are getting too close and/or aren't wearing masks. [ Reply | More ]

Do what you are comfortable with. If you aren't comfortable - don't go. [ Reply | More ]

+1 You don't need to explain or justify to anyone. You're the one who needs to put your head on the pillow at night knowing you tried your best to do the right thing for your family. [ Reply | More ]

I think it's shitty for people to have a party in a playground right now. They're basically coordinating a large group to arrive all at the same time (who wouldn't have normally have been there at that time), making it even more difficult for everyone else to properly socially distance. Space and time is limited for a lot of people. I'd be pissed if the one hour I was able to break away from work to take my kids out for much needed exercise was thwarted because of some big group. This. Do it on a patch of lawn and think of activities where kids can be spread out, like kicking a soccer ball [ Reply | More ]

Also, I know nobody ever does this, but you're technically supposed to get an NYC Parks Permit for any organized group gathering. The city is not currently issuing these now, so clearly they don't want people doing this. [ Reply | More ]

You don't need a permit for under 50 people. I'm inviting 4 kids to my DD's birthday in the playground in two weeks and already looked into it. Also, depending on teh number of kids, I don't see anything wrong with me having a party there because my DD and the friends we are inviting would usually be at the playground just about every day anyway, so it's not actually bringing in "more" kids to the playground. "From the smallest birthday party to the largest concert, special events take place every day in New York City parks. If you want to have any activity in a City park with more than 20 people, or where you would like to reserve a specific area within a park, you need to apply for a special event permit." And I don't think that meeting up with 4 kids is what OP is talking about when she said, "My friend invited everyone." Four kids and their guardians is just like an outdoor playdate, not taking up massive space. [ Reply | More ]

Well I looked up having it at Washington Market Park on their website and it said a permit was only needed for more than 50 people, so I don't know if there are different rules for different parks. [ Reply | More ]
