Lots of talk about tenting fields, etc but still waiting for NYS guidelines. If they have to do a 50% reduction then all the space doesn't really help get more kids to school [ Reply | More ]

Why 50% reduction? what's the target of number of children in a classroom? [ Reply | More ]

I don't know where the OR is getting this. It will be based on room size, just like it has already been announced for colleges in NYS [ Reply | More ]

NP. I have seen this elsewhere too, although I can't remember where: in some states the guidelines have been announced as 50% reduction in population on each school day, so room size doesn't matter. [ Reply | More ]

They are all saying the same thing -- they will open unless the Governor keeps all schools closed. They are planning for 3 possibilities -- all remote (extremely unlikely); a hybrid; all in person. They know there are some children whose health (or the health of someone they live with) won't allow them to return in person until there is a vaccine and they will make accommodations for those students. They all believe some sort of hybrid is the most likely. They will tent fields to get more square footage, they will use common spaces to get more square footage. The admins and many teachers are working over the summer to make whatever happens the best it possibly can be. [ Reply | More ]

Why is some sort of hybrid more likely than in person for private school, if there is space to keep classroom "pods" small? [ Reply | More ]

Personally I think they want to under-promise and over-perform. But that is just a guess. [ Reply | More ]

Because some kids will need to stay home. Transportation is also a big deal. [ Reply | More ]

np: It gets tougher in upper grades when kids pick more specialized courses. I know at my dc's hill school he is entering 10th and there aren't 10 kids in the grade with the same selections as he has. With so much switching of classes, they are saying it will be hard to have them back full time. But it sounds like possibly 4 days a week. [ Reply | More ]
