I pay one on the books and I report her earnings quarterly to the accountant. We had an accountant anyway so I am not sure what the other options are. [ Reply | More ]

Do you generate pay stub or just give her check and report that to accountant ? Do you have any written agreement ? [ Reply | More ]

I just pay in cash and report that to the accountant. No written agreement but sitter and I have been together for 15 years. [ Reply | More ]

That's actually illegal. You should be paying payroll and other taxes. Maybe your accountant does all that for you? [ Reply | More ]

NP: I doubt. I think accountant is subtracting child care from your taxes. No, it’s not called paying by books. [ Reply | More ]

Really? They send her a K-1 or whatever that is called and she qualified for unemployment during this time based on her work for us. [ Reply | More ]

Oh, then it’s my bad. I shouldn’t assume things. [ Reply | More ]

a baby sitter or nanny should NOT be getting a k-1. She should be getting a W2. She is NOT being paid correctly. [ Reply | More ]

Is the babysitter going to pay also? When a lot of sitters say they want $20 and on the books, they don't realize that $20 is going to be net like $18 after the taxes THEY are supposed to pay. If you are going to pay all the taxes for both of you, it adds like 25%. If she pays her part, like 10-15% extra. Those numbers may be off but not a ton. [ Reply | More ]

It's a real PITA. I recommend using a service. The cheapest one I could find that is good enough is Sure Payroll. [ Reply | More ]

there are online services for this, I don't recall the name but I had to onboard my boss' sitter a few years ago. [ Reply | More ]

Our accountant deals with this, NBD, I sign a form and write a check once a quarter or something, basically whatever the accountant tells me to do. [ Reply | More ]

Make sure you are clear with the sitter before hand. I had one nanny that wanted her net take home to be the same as what her off the book rate would have been. It was way more $$$ and a PITA. [ Reply | More ]
