Can parents have a day where we don't work to protest the way we are being treated by companies ... I am not making an equivalence here. I am just pointing out that we need to stand up for our rights and say that it is unfair we are being expected to work, school our children, figure out how to deal with the summer, and now probably not have full time school in the fall. We need to organize. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

it doesn't seem legal to me that they can make us work without child care. [ Reply | More ]

HR suggested I put my 11 yo in daycare and suggested a center that was open! He is too young for me to be gone 9-10 hours a day, too old for daycare. [ Reply | More ]

I sympathize, but at the end of the day workplaces have money to pay workers because workers produce things that other people value/purchase. If you stop producing, how do they have money to pay? [ Reply | More ]

I'm all for making the workplace and society better for everyone and expanding universal pre-K, nationalized healthcare, afterschool programs, etc, but if you just sell it as a 'parents' rights' thing it will go over like a lead balloon. [ Reply | More ]

This is what I think big companies should do -- hire a group of college kids who are taking a gap year and use a couple of conference rooms as a virtual school rooms with the college kids as the tutors/teachers to help the kids with their virtual school and do art projects and board games etc in the afternoon.
