Who pays for this? And please don't anyone start with the "school isn't child care" stuff. For every single American of our generation, it has always been to assume that our kids would be cared for for a certain number of hours a day, and our careers and schedules and families were planned around this fact. I'll give you a little insight. They will do a ridiculous combination of two days a week in person learning in order to get classes down to about 12-15 kids. THEN, to appease the "we need to work" crowd, they will open a limited number of Daycare centers where poor and essential workers will bring their kids to spend the day remotely learning. So kids will attend two different schools essentially, providing for even more infections and subpart learning. That's how DOE is approaching this. [ Reply | More ]

I see, you're saying they will essentially "close" the middle & high schools and use them as elementary schools instead? [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 06.11.20, 08:21 PM Flag
»
No, right now they're talking about 2 days in person for ALL grades. Also considering adding a little more in person days to elementary by using special rooms and gyms. I would not count on more than 2x/week for MS and HS. Another model they're considering is week on/week off for all grades. Basically, they need to be able to space desks 6 feet apart. I'm saying they will open a limited number of "daycare centers" in gyms for people who have nowhere to send on days off. It's a really stupid plan that actually increases exposure and infection risk. [ Reply | More ]

Bear the brunt? The at-risk population has already been bearing it. A big part of how we got into the first wave in NYC was because the schools stayed open so long due to fears over what parents would do for childcare. City government were all for keeping them open even longer. Imagine how many more people would be dead. You need to figure out that the virus is running the show and there are other people with needs besides yourself. [ Reply | More ]
