This has never happened to me. Are they friend-friends or friends-that-you-know-through-the-industry friends? [ Reply | More ]

I think it's shitty if they don't go through you (i.e. do you have anyone you'd recommend, an employee who might be looking to move on/up, etc.) [ Reply | More ]

Do you know for sure they were doing the poaching proactively, or is it possible that your employees reached out to them? [ Reply | More ]

Then you can't blame your friend for engaging with a qualified recruit who is actively expressing interest [ Reply | More ]

Totally depends on the industry and the person. If you are a partner at a big law firm and the person is a recruiter I would expect it. If you have a small business and the person has no financial interest in placing people I would find it very odd. [ Reply | More ]

i'm pretty sure Ben H covers this in his book "hard thing about hard things" - and I think his advice was, "don't if you value the friendship, no amount of approaching them first etc will make a difference" [ Reply | More ]
