yes. sometimes I look at my savings and the frugal life I live and I'm sad. But then I realize the lack of anxiety I feel because I have savings is worth more than an updated kitchen. [ Reply | More ]

You've not read "The millionaire next door"? Old cars, cheapest house on the street, usually never divorced, no show off possessions except maybe one thing they are very passionate or creative about. [ Reply | More ]

No, never had a particular interest in reading what millionaires do or don't do. I am poor and I also have an old car and tiny house lol. [ Reply | More ]

Were not traveling this year and I'm cooking all of our food and I finally paid off a student loan. We plan to be back to 50k by year end (acknowledging that we plan God laughs). And I think we'll up the goal to about 80. That would be a full year of minimum expenses. [ Reply | More ]

On February when Wuhan was in lockdown I ordered all of our retirement investments be put into a money market. (I read a lot of epidemic/pandemic thrillers in my teens.) So about $1.5mm though it's in retirement funds but still cash. [ Reply | More ]

how much are your housing costs? Mine are $5k/month, gas, electric, car ins., life ins., lawn care, cable, cell phones (4), home phone, gas, public transportation are another $2k, food (groceries, eating out 1x/wk, ordering in 1x/wk, occasional lunching at work) easily $2k, travel sports for 2 teenagers plus coaches, plus things like SAT prep adds up to about $1500/month. The rest is entertainment, travel, presents, toiletries, home repairs (not even upgrades, just, well, things need maintenance). [ Reply | More ]

I have low housing costs, but that's offset with student loans. I have very low other costs (we are grand-fathered into a great cell plan at $20 total for the family a month). We are pretty frugal on other things. [ Reply | More ]
