Berkeley is piloting a test-blind study. According to campus spokesperson Janet Gilmore, SAT and ACT scores will not be considered for any California applicants next year, and the pilot study will track the academic performance of this cohort of students. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

This does not affect out of state or international students, who are allowed to make up 31.6% of admitted students. And test scores never affected transfer students from California community colleges, who have to make up 33% of their admitted students. So even if 15,000 students get admitted for Fall 2021, the study they are piloting will only affect about 5,310 students (about 35.4% of admitted students are California residents that are first time freshmen). the UC's are very familiar with in-state high schools so they can do a pretty good job evaluating applicants without standardized tests. also a fairly uniform state-wide curriculum. [ Reply | More ]
