In NYC? For a large building, when I say "neighbor" I usually mean people in my building. If I was in a smaller multi-family or townhouse, would probably include people on my block in similar buildings. [ Reply | More

Funny - now I'm thinking now about how I refer to people who live in other large buildings on my block. I usually say something like, "I was talking to a guy who lives in the building next door" or "a guy down the street." When I say, "I was talking to one of my neighbors" I'm almost always referring to people in my building. [ Reply | More

I have a good friend who lives maybe three quarters of a mile away in the same sparsely populated suburban town. She mentioned planning a get together with some neighbors and it took me a minute to realize she wasn't inviting me! Then I was annoyed. [ Reply | More

Depends on where I am. If I'm on the other side of the world and I meet someone from Hoboken, we're neighbors. Otherwise my neighbors are in my building or my block. [ Reply | More
