WWYD: I found out through the grapevine that one of my coworkers complained to HR about her workload, how stressed she is, and how responsive our management has been to her concerns about workload, and overly aggressive timelines. A few days later, HR sets up a call with me for 30 minutes about "employee engagement" and asks about if this job is what I expected, if the workload is what I expected, if I feel supported by upper management, etc,. I didn't throw anyone under the bus but I felt like she was looking for it. I did say the workload is quite a bit. During the same period, another coworker quit and apparently gave HR an earful about what she thought about our company on her way out. Recently upper management started extending deadlines. Do you think something happened? Should I let someone know this has all been happening behind the scenes between HR and junior employees? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

This! HR isn't randomly colluding with junior employees... that's not how it works. HR is there to protect THE COMPANY. Whatever they are doing is at the behest of management. [ Reply | More

So, your company is actively listening to employee concerns and you think there is an issue with this? I know millennials get a lot of bad-mouthing, but I personally think it's great that they collectively call out and try to change workplace cultures. This whole idea of "well this is how it was when I rose through the ranks" doesn't mean it was the correct way to do things. [ Reply | More

+1 I don't get the mindset that people shouldn't try to change things for the better. Should everyone just be miserable forever just because you were at some point? Do you want your kids to be miserable? Life, technology, etc. has changed in the past 20-30 years, workplace cultures should too. [ Reply | More
