Private school moms- would you or anyone you know not pay tuition if school is completely remote in the fall? Is there any way to get out of school contract for “non-performance”? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

i mean - that's the quandary on everyone's minds. but also kind of not fair to the school - tho for younger kids hard to see an alternative [ Reply | More ]

I am a mom of children who go to private school and a private school teacher. Pay your tuition. I will pay ours in full even if it is remote for a few extra months in the fall. Principals everywhere are fearful of parents not paying. Believe me schools are struggling. [ Reply | More ]

We wouldn’t pay tuition for remote learning so we pulled them ahead of the contract deadline. I think it’s dangerous game to consider not paying. Also check your contract carefully if you haven’t already. One of ours actually covered a pandemic scenario. [ Reply | More ]

most schools are working with you during this uncertainty, at least the 2 privates my kids attend are. I paid deposits and signed contracts back when they were due in Jan/Feb. Since corona the schools have sent out emails saying to contact their COO if you are having payment issues and they will work with you. [ Reply | More ]

Same here- our contract has a clause protecting them if school is remote, doesn’t start on time, happens on weekends, or there is a pandemic. [ Reply | More ]

Many private school families actually prefer that school be remote in the fall. They are comfortable in their vacation homes and do not want to return to NYC in the current state, nor do they want to deal with all the limitations that are proposed for in-person school. It's not worth it to them--they would just prefer to stay where they are and pay for remote learning. [ Reply | More ]

That seems crazy to me, as every kid and parent I know hates remote school. But I'm not a richie rich. I guess it's different if you can pay a tutor or something to sit with your kid every day to do his remote schooling. [ Reply | More ]

We have a summer house on the beach and I want to get back to normal. If I wanted to be in an area like this full time, we would have purchased a primary residence elsewhere and not nyc. [ Reply | More ]

Sure, don't pay. They won't come after you. Whether or not that is a good moral choice is another question. [ Reply | More ]
