Is there anyone here who has trouble losing weight even if they eat "healthy" carbs, like fruit, vegetables, and sweet potatoes? I'm 40yo and wondering if this is me now. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Isn't that just eating a lot of starchy crackers though? [ Reply | More ]

You don't have to follow the whole diet- just read about the net carbs thing and how fruit plays into it. [ Reply | More ]

I don't do starchy things but I'm having trouble -- 47 -- I think it has a lot to do with hormones. I run up to 5 times a week and if I'm not running I get in an hour worth of walking. I've cut out gluten and sweets. It's been VERY hard. What's up with that? [ Reply | More ]

I think the definition of "healthy" carbs could maybe gain from some refinement. Namely, a watermelon is not the same as an avocado nutritionally. Different fruits have different sugar content. Different vegetables have different fiber or fat content. [ Reply | More ]

I don’t think most people here think all fruits and vegetables are the same. Avocados and watermelon are both fruits; one obviously needs to watch fruit as many are high in sugar (avocados are high in fat of course). With veggies, I don’t think anybody needs to think about the difference between broccoli and cauliflower or kale or Zucchini or even carrots (truly, even though carrots are higher in sugar, it’s hard to eat enough, especially raw). Obviously there are a couple exceptions like potatoes and corn. [ Reply | More ]

This. Dried fruit is the worst. [ Reply | More ]

What do you mean? You don't think it's a healthy carb? Or people who are trying to lose weight shouldn't eat it? [ Reply | More ]

Most fruit has a lot of sugar. Sure, it's "natural" sugar, but it's still sugar and has a lot of calories. The basic rule is: If something tastes sweet, and it's not artificially sweetened, it's fattening. [ Reply | More ]

This, unfortunately. This is why many diets fail. It’s kind of hard to stick to the diet where you are not allowed to eat things you enjoy, including fruit. [ Reply | More ]

Np: fruit are loaded with sugar. You should limit fruit and instead increase the amount of berries in your diet. [ Reply | More ]

True, but something like an apple or orange has fiber, and apple juice or OJ has no fiber but lots of sugar. All things in moderation. [ Reply | More ]

How much do you want to lose? Even in mid 50s, I can drop 5 lbs if I have one small meal a day for a week. [ Reply | More ]

op: 10 lbs. Does it stay off when you do that? What kind of small meal do you have? [ Reply | More ]

a sandwich, it stays off if I keep not eating; it doesn't stay off if I go back to three meals/day. [ Reply | More ]

You need to drop most carbs, including sweet potato, and limit the amount of fruit. I gab weight very quickly from sweet potatoes. [ Reply | More ]

If weight is more important than indulgence to you at the moment then have some blueberries first thing in the AM and then you're done with fruit for the day. One sweet potato a week is fine if dinner is early. [ Reply | More ]

I think all of those things are fine. workout more and don't eat any sugar or white flour and try to have as many vegetarian meals as possible. [ Reply | More ]
