I'm an MD professor and have to give a very important presentation to 50+ colleagues over Zoom. Should I wear a suit jacket as I would have if I had given it in person? Or will that look silly since we all know I'm at home? Any other tips?? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Absolutely a suit. Its very important, it's a lot of colleagues, and I'm guessing it will be important for your career. [ Reply | More ]

Would a nice blouse be ok? Suit jacket seems a little over the top [ Reply | More ]

Academic MD Mom: I would wear a suit but I am old school. Maybe a dress with sleeves. Same as you would wear if you were giving your presentation in person [ Reply | More ]

Professional dress, but doesn't have to be a suit. However, make sure your background is also professional. [ Reply | More ]

Right now I have a clean space with a large painting on the back wall and some flowers on a small table. Is that good? [ Reply | More ]

absolutely wear a suit. we just had fellowship interviews and everyone in suit with clean background. i got to be casual as the interviewing faculty but for an important presentation, i would definitely wear professional attire. [ Reply | More ]

Something near your face - jacket is fine, but if not, a shirt with a collar or a scarf or something. Ideally, they'll mostly see your face and the top of your shoulders. MORE important: Get the lighting and positioning right - not from right behind you and not a single glare of a lamp. Look at yourself on the PC camera ahead of time and make adjustments. MOST important: Look At The Camera. Not obsessively, but regularly through out the presentation. I have talked to way too many ears, foreheads, and nostrils in the last 6 weeks. [ Reply | More ]

NP - find a fairly plain real background. The virtual backgrounds are very wonky if you don't have a green screen background - most people look like their arms are emerging from the verdent forest they have tried to add. [ Reply | More ]
