Dcs go to a public school in the city but not run by DOE - what do you think the chances are of them going back to school in person in fall? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

My kids go to a charter. It does seem to be able to make decisions about opening/closing separate from DOE. (it closed before DOE). I'm not sure if they would be able to put social distancing measures in place for next year, but I can't imagine DOE will be able to do it, either. [ Reply | More ]

Hunter? My DC goes there and my guess is there will be SOME in-person classes, but they will be limited -- and optional for families that don't want to send their kids. [ Reply | More ]

op - yes, this is causing me to reconsider staying in NYC - how long can our dcs be isolated in this way? I assume HCHS would be even harder... [ Reply | More ]

High school is easier I think. The kids are in touch constantly via phones and online games. My DC went to a neighborhood school before HCHS so he's been getting together with nearby friends. It hasn't been so bad - but I can't wait until he can go back to school for real. [ Reply | More ]

np: i think if they can HS will have some in person because they seem very concerned that some kids are falling behind badly with remote learning, for a variety of reasons. [ Reply | More ]

np here - we are at HCES too and I'm really getting worried. The pushing back of the start date has me low-grade freaking out. [ Reply | More ]

op - I fear outing myself but I have a 6th grader and when they announced the push out of HCES opening that gave me hope for the little kids that they will be working on how to make it work for them to be at school. I fear my child will start 7th grade remotely due to some many more children in each class/grade at HCHS. For HCES my concern would be the teachers not wanting to come back and the lack of windows causing ventilation concerns. [ Reply | More ]

yes regarding the window situation - it's already so cramped, no windows, etc... it's the worst building for this. [ Reply | More ]
