At the end of the rope with my 14 yo DD. Lashes out if she doesn’t get what she wants - everything is war. Especially when it comes to screentime. We aren’t the strictest or the most lax parents around. We get days of silent treatment if we don’t acquiesce. Any suggestions? :(( [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Is school still going on? If so, I would ignore her silent treatment and try to muddle through until the year is over and stress is down. Then, I would try to sit down with her at a good moment and hear her out: her concerns, fears, what does she use the screens for (movies, communications with friends). Rebuild a rapport and agree on some mutually acceptable parameters. I would be honest about the impact she has on the family: when you do x, we feel y, etc [ Reply | More ]

treat it like toddler tantrums. ignore the silent treatment; when she wants to talk, she will. and also maybe try to find a family activity she would enjoy. [ Reply | More ]

She wouldn't even engage. This has been going on several days now. It's like "are you giving me what I want? No? OK I'm not talking to you" [ Reply | More ]

Then ignore her. May be try to Live your life as if she was not here. Laugh, make good food, put on a good movie on. She thinks she has power over you and your emotions. Don’t let her know this. [ Reply | More ]
