Serious question - how is a domestic violence counselor going to get someone assaulting his wife to stop and get out of the house? Or is the thinking that DV, child abuse, etc. will just stop occurring if the police go away because we will also become so compassionate? Please note that these are problems that occur in all communities, not just the over-policed ones, so I'm not making any assumptions about what kind of setting this would occur in. FWIW, I don't know what the answer is, most of American policing is a disaster and people are righteously fed up but this idea that counselors and social workers are going to be able to deal with all forms of violent confrontations in the heat of the moment seems ridiculous to me. It is my understanding that disbanding the city police department does not actually eliminate ALL police. It instead shifts the policing to a reformed county police department instead. So in a situation where a violent crime is in progress then an armed police officer would still respond.
