Can I wash and reuse a surgical mask? Thanks. I put one in the washing machine yesterday and came out as new. But I would like to be sure it has not been damaged, maybe not as effective? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I read that the filters inside will get messed up once washed. People recommend you spray it with disinfectant to re-use. But not washing it. I think it really depends on the type of mask you have. [ Reply | More

Cotton ok to wash. N95 filtration will get ruined if washed. Not quite sure about surgical mask but the material seems more similar to n95 than cotton so wouldn’t risk it by washing. I used mine a few times before tossing. MD mom. [ Reply | More

Op- thanks MD mom, so I can use it a few times before I toss it? Was not sure about this... I fold it up and then put on again, say next day- to run to the store or something? I also have a small up light thingy (Found it on Amazon they call it a phone sanitizer) I sometimes put my reading glasses or keys in there for the 18 minutes course... not sure if it sanitizes and would be Ok for a mask? I think wearing a few times is fine as long as not soiled or dirty. I use the same one in OR all day before discarding. Not sure how much I would trust an Amazon sanitizer ;) [ Reply | More
